Covid-19 Update

Greetings from a strangely still Downtown Memphis!

As we move deeper into the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, I have been incredibly encouraged witnessing how so many are responding to the rapidly changing social dynamics we are experiencing. I was deeply encouraged by a video conference I had with many clergy Downtown where the only topic of conversation was how we can adapt and best serve our unsheltered friends. As precious a gift from God it is for us to come together in Worship each week, closing our buildings for a little while only shifts the way we do church.

After much prayer and reliance on the various health organizations, the leadership of First Church and I agree we should extend the cancelation of all First Church services, gatherings, and meetings through the month of March. We will however at a minimum have a live stream every Sunday. You will be able to go to our Facebook page(www.facebook.com/FirstChurchMemphis) or our website (firstchurchmemphis.org) to get details of how you can participate in the live stream.

Below are some things to consider during this time apart:

  1. Discover new ways to connect with others. There are a lot of people who are scared and lonely at this time. The best way to combat your own feelings of isolation is to reach out. If you would like a suggestion of someone who lives alone you could reach out to, call or email Susan at the church.

  2. Continue to support First Church financially – it is vitally important for the ongoing ministry of First Church that everyone continues their giving to support the ministry of First Church. Missing a number of Sunday morning offerings could greatly impact our ability to serve our community in the future. You can give in a number of different ways.

    • Mail your donation into the office 204. N Second St Memphis TN 38105.

    • go to our website at firstchurchmemphis.org/give for your easy online giving options.

  3. Abide- when our daily patterns in life are disturbed, sometimes it provides an opportunity to create new patterns and rhythms. Before you turn on the tv or flip through Twitter and Facebook, pick up your bible and read. Spend some extra time in prayer. Spend time drawing nearer to God and abiding in Jesus.

I miss our times together and can not wait until we get to come back together and Worship our amazing Father together!!

Grace and Peace,

Andy
