First Methodist Celebrates First Easter in New Sanctuary

Memphis, TN - The people of First United Methodist Church will be celebrating Easter in their new sanctuary this Sunday twelve Easters after their sanctuary was destroyed by fire.  As has been the case for nearly 200 years, a sanctuary once again stands at the corner of 2nd Street and Poplar Ave.

The people of First Methodist never missed a Sunday of worship throughout the twelve years following the devastating fire of 2006.  They are particularly thrilled this Easter to be able to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus in the new sanctuary which was specifically designed to be open and welcoming to anyone desiring to join them.

The new building maintains the traditional look of a sanctuary and bell tower, reflecting the rich past of the 193-year-old First Methodist. Glass walls add a modern touch, opening the church up to its Downtown neighbors and providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all who come for worship.

Pastor Andy Rambo says: "Every Easter is a beautiful and transformative time of celebration with the people of First Methodist.  This Easter is particularly meaningful since it is our first Sunday to celebrate Easter in the new sanctuary.  Just as Easter brings a message of hope and new life, in a similar way we are thankful for the new beginning God has given us to provide worship and community for more people than ever.  We pray those who have no church home will join us and find a home with us."

Easter Sunday Service:  Rooftop Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m.      Sanctuary Service at 11 a.m.
