Welcome to First Church

We want to make your visit as easy as possible so you feel right at home. If you need directions, just ask anyone you see. Our people are very friendly.

Parking

We have a few spaces on Second Street for guests and seniors. Our parking lot is at the corner of Exchange and Second St. (see photo below). Note that Second is one-way going south, and B. B. King (Third) is one-way going north. If you miss the lot on the first pass, just circle the block by taking a left on Poplar, a left on B. B. King, then a left on Exchange. This lot is paid parking during the week but is free for our use on Sunday mornings or for any other First Church events.

Entrance

From the parking lot, walk south along Second toward Poplar. Past an alley, you’ll come to our activities building with stone steps in front. Our fellowship hall is on the second floor, and Sunday School classrooms are on the third. On the corner of Second and Poplar stands our beautiful new sanctuary. You can enter the foyer through glass doors and turn right into the sanctuary or continue along Second to the front entrance. Greeters will be on hand to guide you. Before worship, coffee will be available in the foyer outside the sanctuary. Our glass-walled sanctuary, with its mixture of modern and traditional design, provides a worshipful, inspiring space where all are welcome,

Nursery

Each Sunday morning, we provide a nursery for pre-kindergarten children during Sunday School and worship. The church thoroughly screens our nursery staff with safety the foremost concern. The nursery is on the first floor of the activities building (If you enter via the front steps, the nursery is one floor down.)

Attire

Whatever makes you comfortable is fine. Our diverse congregation wears everything from business suits to everyday casual attire. Everyone fits in, and you will, too.

We often say that First Church is not a social club, we’re a family. For nearly 200 years, we’ve been serving God and our neighbors in Downtown Memphis. Don’t be nervous, don’t be shy. Come join us. We promise you a warm welcome. You may start as a guest, but before long you’ll be a member of the family.
